United Nations Office for Project Services inaugural forum
Hon. Susan Mang’eni was privileged to grace the inaugural forum of United Nations Office for Project Services in Kenya to sensitize our local MSMEs on possibilities for sustainable procurement. She stated that access is one of the most significant barriers to the MSMEs growth.
Through the UNOPs initiative, there is a huge step towards building the capacities and capabilities of our local MSMEs to access this lucrative market.
Although Kenya is number thirteen with regard to supplying to UNOPs, the MSMEs are underrepresented. This is besides the fact that MSMEs are instrumental in accelerating achievement of Sustainable Development Goals that have the power to create a better world by 2030. However, this is only achievable if MSMEs are properly enabled and linked to sustainable markets.
PS for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development also mentioned the fact that as a government, they have placed a renewed focus on the MSMEs sector and are happy that various actors are aligning to the new focus and to H.E William Samoei Ruto Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. In addition, she welcomed and committed maximum support to such initiatives aimed at opening up the market to MSMEs.
The sector being the only available room for job creation in the economy, need to be supported with market linkages hence the reason government is undertaking policy reforms to ease the entry and participation of MSMEs in government tenders and expand their opportunities to create jobs.
