Strengthening MSMEs in the Building and Construction Sector under the KJET Program

The Building and Construction sector is one of Kenya’s priority value chains under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), contributing 8.4% to our national GDP and creating opportunities across the country.

Hon. Susan ang'eni visited the ongoing Kenya Jobs & Economic Transformation (KJET) Program business skills training in Ngong Town, Kajiado County, where MSME clusters in the building and construction sector are being equipped with practical skills to strengthen their enterprises, boost productivity, competitiveness, and job creation.

Under the Affordable Housing Program, contracts worth Ksh 11 billion have been ring-fenced specifically for local MSMEs. The program is projected to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, rising from 428,000 in 2025 to 572,000 by next year.

The Building and Construction sector is a national empowerment engine that has numerous opportunities for MSMEs and supports a wide range of professionals, including architects, engineers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, masons, transporters, and many more within the MSME ecosystem.
