Medium Term Plan Discussion

Earlier today, Principal Secretary Hon. Susan Mang'eni had the privilege of discussing our transformative vision for counties on Emuria FM in Busia County. The Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) 2023-2027, themed "Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda for Inclusive Growth," reflects our dedication to economic turnaround and inclusive prosperity.

The goal is to evolve counties into vibrant economic hubs by 2030, reaching middle-income status and enriching lives through job creation and infrastructure development. We're strategically investing in industrialization to capitalize on our growing population and foster sustainable economic opportunities. Across various sectors, our medium-term plans prioritize affordable housing, job creation, and overall economic expansion.

We're actively intervening to bolster the agricultural sector, ensuring farmers access affordable fertilizer as part of the President’s push to subsidize production for the benefit of all citizens. Emphasizing the empowerment of micro and small businesses (MSMEs) is pivotal for economic development. Initiatives like the Hustler Fund promote financial inclusion, enabling MSMEs to flourish and contribute to the economy.

Enhancing value addition processes, particularly in traditional value chains like cotton and leather, is a key focus to augment production and economic value. We advocate for collective efforts in value addition and support devolution to ensure economic benefits permeate grassroots communities, as envisioned through #BETA. The President’s affordable housing program not only addresses housing needs but also creates job opportunities, fueling economic growth.

Identifying and prioritizing key sectors are driving economic growth while ensuring universal healthcare access improves overall well-being. Establishing IT hubs in our wards fosters technological growth and innovation, while increasing internet connectivity enhances access to information and digital services.

Promoting establishment of county aggregation and industrial parks to stimulate regional economic activities, and enhancing Export Processing Zones (EPZs) boosts exports and attracts foreign investments. Improving roads facilitates transportation and economic activities. Ensuring all Kenyan farmers receive subsidized fertilizers to improve agricultural productivity and promoting the uptake of the Hustler Fund supports small-scale farmers and businesses.

Implementing social health insurance schemes promotes universal healthcare coverage, and efforts to curb accidents, particularly at borders, ensure safety and security.

We call upon our people to participate in these initiatives to achieve the 2030 vision. By focusing on these key areas, we're propelling economic growth and development, securing a prosperous future for all Kenyans. We thank Emuria FM for hosting me and facilitating detailed conversations on MTPIV.
