ISSUANCE OF UWEZO FUND CHEQUES
The PS State Department of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development; Ms.Susan Auma Mang'eni in collaboration with the Members of parliament who are the patrons of the Fund jointly issued the cheques in Naivasha and Bahati.
A total of Kshs 241, 608, 647 from the Uwezo Fund allocation has been issued to Nakuru County since inception, which has since transformed into Kshs 380, 476, 000. These funds have been disbursed to 4,061 groups, benefiting 2,848 women groups, 1,101 youth groups, and 104 groups of persons with disabilities, impacting the lives of 55,547 individuals across the county, which underscores an impressive absorption rate of 157.48% for ensuring that every allocated shilling reaches its intended beneficiaries.
PS Mang'eni in collaboration with the MP for Naivasha Constituency Hon. Jane Kihara and Gilgil Member of Parliament Hon Martha Wangari issued cheques worth Ksh 5,150,000 at Xavier Catholic Church, Naivasha in Nakuru County. In total 23 groups made up of 20 women groups and 3 youth groups benefitted from Uwezo funds, five women groups benefiting from the Fund.
Speaking during the event, PS Mangeni commended Nakuru County for demonstrating an exemplary performance of a repayment rate of 59%, which translates to a cumulative amount of Ksh. 193, 666, 120 that has been repaid, an indication of proper utilisation of the funds by the groups in the county.
She called for more collaborations and partnerships to ensure that the funding continues to have a meaningful impact on the lives of the people of Nakuru and beyond. She reiterated the aim of the affirmative funds noting the repayment rate and urged them to enhance the repayment.
PS MSME said Uwezo Fund Board was in the process of re-engineering aimed at reducing the turn around period and enhance efficiency in serving mwananchi.The PS also said the Government is in the process of coming up with other social funds for vulnerable people which will factor supporting men and urged the MP to support the programme.
She further said government will work towards acquiring space for doing business and also explore on working on the licences to ease doing businesses and " through MSEA constituency industrial centres to train and working on equipping the shared services through the common user facilities" PS said. She also encouraged groups to seek higher loan limits from KIE for groups engaging on value addition in manufacturing sector with loans upto Ksh. 20million to engage the unemployed population
